-- Corporations, Companies, and Businesses, Reference

Information about corporations nationwide and worldwide is often needed. The following resources can help in the process of finding out information about businesses of all kinds, including profit and nonprofit corporations, LLCs, businesses operating under Fictitious Names (FNs) or DBAs (Doing Business As), and other forms of business operations.

TTD/QTBA/FU:

1. Find the public, college, and university libraries that subscribe to the premium versions of these databases;

2. What onine website will tell you the names of all companies, especially the major ones, that are in a given SIC/NAICM classification code?

Databases:

Open Corporates. com: Database of Corporations, over 93 million corporations, profit and nonprofit, even inactive, disbanded corporations, worldwide (eg. has information about Homeotronic Memorial Foundation, inactive for decades):

http://opencorporates.com/companies/us_pa/272923

Bizapedia: http://www.bizapedia.com/  (Home Page)

Nationwide Search by Name of Business: http://www.bizapedia.com/company-search.aspx

This website is great and covers 85 million profit and nonprofit corporation, LLC, etc., in the United States, plus corporations in Canada, the United Kingdom, and France. Although it is not certain the coverage in the latter three countries. This databese also covers Fictitious Names (FNs) and DBAs (Doing Business As), which are registered at the county level, but the comprehensiveness of the coverage of FNs and DBAs has not yet been determined. One great thing about this database, is that it allows you to see active, as well as, defunct corporations, which is very useful.

This database allows you to search by name, nationwide, by state, by company product category, and by zip code. The nationwide name search is a keyword search so if you only know part of the name, it will find all companies with that word or those words in the name, regarless of the order of the words. It also does partial word searches, so if you only know part of a word, it will still search and possibly find what you are looking for.

Statelog: https://www.statelog.com/ , covers not only corporations, LLCs, and related forms, but also fictitious names and sole proprietorships.

Datalog: http://www.datalog.co.uk/browse/  cover all companies in the UK and surrounding islands, Ireland, Canada, and many in the US.

Intercredit Report:  http://wyoming.intercreditreport.com/

Hoover's (Information on 85 million companies, undoubtedly, worldwide): they have a free trial

http://www.hoovers.com/#megamenu.html

Free trial: phone: (866) 793-6580 In about 2013, I noted that Hoover's database of companies and industrial classifications is available free via the River City Group //www.trcg.com. But when I tried to find it in Feb., 2015, I could not find it.

India Corporations: Covers more than one million corporations and entities in India, plus directors: http://site2corp.com/in

KnowX: https://www.knowx.com/home/home.jsp

KnowX is a Lexis-Nexis company, and useful in that it searches by full name, partial name, and even partial words. It will tell you the state where a business is located, but it won't give you additional information without having to pay. But that is OK, because you can then go to that state and get the information freely, since it is public information. KnowX also covers FNs and DBAs, but it doesn't tell you if it is an FN or DBA as Bizapedia does.

Manta: http://www.manta.com (see annotation)

Manta.com is an online small business service directory and search engine which provides small businesses with networking information. It claims to have information on millions of businesses, but its search engin is very poor. A search of Publishmetoday.com gave over 2000 results, and PMT was not even on the first page.

North American Industial Classification System (NAICS): http://www.census.gov/eos/www/naics/

541   Professional, Scientific, and Technical Services

5417   Scientific Research and Development Services

Standard Industrial Classification Manual and Codes (SIC): This was replaced by the North American Industial Classification Manual and Codes (NAICM). See the NAICM above.

Ward's

YellowPages.com: http://www.yellowpages.com/  You used to be able to search nationwide with this website, but not as of Fe., 2015. There is no longer a "nationwide" option button as there used to be. So just try some other yellow pages, or business white pages. It has a "white pages", but I coldn't find what I wanted.

Zoom Info: http://www.zoominfo.com/

Zoom info has a business search engine at: http://www.zoominfo.com/s/#!search/company/1.6.e30%3D  but it did not have WISE listed. It is mostly a premium based service. I believe it sed to have such a search engine. I read that it provides access to some 34 million business professionals and 2 million companies.
