Sending a Message
1. To send a private message to people on you Facebook Home page list:
- Click Messages on the left side of your homepage
- Click New Message

Start typing a name or email address into the To field
- Names of friends and other people you know will appear in a dropdown
- Select the person or people you want to message (If the person you want to email is not on that list, you can't send them an email by this method, apparently.)
- Type your message and click Send
2. You can also message someone by clicking Message at the top of their timeline. This is the way you email someone who is not on the list of your home page people.

You can send messages to anyone on Facebook as well as to email addresses. Messages you send to people you're not connected to may arrive in their Other folder.

What happens when I message someone?
When you send someone a message, it gets delivered to the person’s Facebook Messages.
If the person you messaged has turned chat on, your message will appear as a chat. If they have chat off, the message will appear in their message inbox and they will receive a notification. Once the person sees your message, it will be marked as seen.

How do I know if a friend has seen a message I sent?
When someone sees your most recent message, it will be marked as seen. That way, you always know who got the message, and who didn't.
Messages are marked as seen if the person is actively chatting or checking their messages.
This feature is part of every message you send, whether it's from your phone or the web.

Can I unsend a message once it has been sent?
No, sent messages can't be unsent or removed from the recipient's inbox. Depending on someone's notification settings, they may also receive your message as an email notification.

How many people can I message at once?
You can message up to 250 people or email addresses at once.
If you'd like to distribute a message to a specific group that you are a part of, you can post in the group. All members of the group will be able to see your post, and those members who have allowed group notifications will also receive an email notification about your post.

If I'm not connected to someone on Facebook, how can I make sure a message reaches their inbox?
Messages you send to someone you're not connected to on Facebook may arrive in their Other folder. You may have the option of paying to route these messages to their inbox. When this delivery option is available, you'll see the price beneath your message.
Because we limit the number of messages a person can receive in their inbox from people they're not connected to, you may not always have this delivery option.
