Martinus Beversluis

Reverend Martinus Beversluis (1856-1948) was a Christian clergyman in the Netherlands who later became interested in Spiritualism.

He is best known for his inspired lectures and the magazine Geest en Leven that he founded in 1898 and that struggled to survive for many years.   In contrast to Elise van Calcar, Beversluis was not a good writer; his magazine is tedious and naïve, even sometimes pathetic as he was often prix cialis one step away from the last issue which came finally in 1942 when he had few remaining subscribers.

Beversluis was a Christian like Roorda van Eysinga and van Calcar, all of whom referred to themselves as Spiritualists, not Spiritists.

Biographical information and a bibliography for his son Martien Beversluis (1894-1966), a Dutch poet and novelist, can be found in an entry in the Dutch-language Wikipedia

The archives of the Dutch Spiritualist Society "Harmonia" (Archive (HUA)) include records relating to Reverend Martinus Beversluis.

The preliminary biographical sketch for this entry relating to the history of Spiritualism in the Netherlands was kindly provided by Mrs. Loes Modderman in December 2013.
