Skeptic Journals and Periodicals

(Return to the main WISE Digital Library Page)

These are periodicals that focus on criticizing books, articles, periodicals, organizations, and people doing research on or publishing anything about alternative medicine, parapsychology, the paranormal, or related subjects, especially anything positive or favorable about such subjects.

Such criticism is very useful to true scientists in that it can point out weaknesses in the research on the above subjects, the same weaknesses frequently found in mainstream science and biomedical research. Skeptics can also be useful in helping to expose fraud related to the above subjects, just as numerous cases of fraud have occurred in mainstream science in recent years. But just because fraud, errors, and mistakes of all kinds occur in various areas of scientific inquiry, (which has occurred repeatedly in medicine and science throughout history), it does not mean that these areas of scientific research are somehow illigitimate or to be avoided. Otherwise, progress in science and medicine would be greatly inhibited.

Arizona Skeptic, The

The  Arizona Skeptic (ISSN: ??) was  a hardcopy periodical published by the Phoenix Skeptics of Phoenix, Arizona, and the Tucson Skeptical Society (TUSKS) from 1988-1994. This periodical focused on criticizing and attempting to debunk alternative medicine therapies and research, as well as, paranormal and occult subjects. It continued on the Phoenix Skeptics News, when the two organizations joined forces to publish a periodical together, and the periodical numbering was contined. Thus the first issue of The Arizona Skeptic is Volume 2, No. 1 (July/August, 1988) and it continued  to be published through Volume 7, No. 1 (Summer, 1994). No issues of this periodical are known to have been published after that date.  All issues of this periodical have been digitized and are freely available at the following website:
